Cyclone Arnab Disrupts Rail Services: 42 Trains Cancelled, 70 Services Affected
Cyclone Arnab and heavy rainfall have disrupted Indian Railways, with 42 trains cancelled and around 70 services affected. Two Vande Bharat Express trains are among those cancelled as rising water levels threaten railway operations.
According to South Coast Railway (SCOR), train operations have been regulated near Bridge No. 1052 (Up) as rising water levels created safety concerns. Several trains have been cancelled, while others have been diverted or rescheduled as a precautionary measure to ensure passenger safety.
Among the cancelled services are two Vande Bharat Express trains operating between Bhubaneswar and Visakhapatnam. Several important long-distance trains connecting Howrah, Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru and other major cities have also been affected, as per The Indian Express report.
The cancellations and disruptions are spread across October 29 and November 1, with October 29 witnessing the maximum number of affected services. Railway authorities said passenger safety remains their top priority and that train operations will be restored once conditions improve.
To assist stranded passengers, the railways is operating an unscheduled special train between Visakhapatnam and Palasa. Officials have also arranged drinking water, food and other essential facilities for passengers facing inconvenience due to the disruption.
The railway zone said heavy rainfall caused water levels to rise sharply in the affected area, forcing authorities to take preventive measures. Teams are continuously monitoring the situation, and train services will resume only after the affected track section is declared safe for operations.
Cyclone Arnab, which made landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast, has brought heavy rainfall and strong winds across parts of eastern India. Its impact has disrupted normal life in several areas, including railway operations, with passengers facing cancellations, diversions and rescheduling of train services.
With railway authorities closely monitoring water levels and track conditions near the affected bridge, the restoration of normal train operations remains dependent on the track section being declared safe.
